Overflow water management and contemporary pool renovation

This Paddington property feaures a pool renovation and creation of a shade structure for additional entertaining by the pool. The property also faced storm water problems and required water management via swale, drainage system and planting.

Pool renovation

The pool at this Paddington property originally had an old-fashioned shape. As request by the client, we designed walls built into the pool along with sandstone paving and pool coping to bring it a modern, clean rectangular shape.

Shade structure

We suggested and designed a shade structure in the pool area to imitate the entertaining area of the existing building.

Overland flow and water management

Storm water problems from the neighbours were an issue for this property. We designed a subtle swale and drain system to capture and control water management issues. We also extended the retaining wall, tumbled sandstone garden mulch and repeated hidden drainage pits to remove excessive water.

Planting

We designed a subtropical/resort style planting combination of lush green, and varied coloured foliage to give an exotic tropical feel. The stabilizing planting also reduced the effect of the neighbour's storm water overflow. Existing golden cane palms were utilised as a lush backdrop, with feature planting to foreground to take attention away from out-dated species.
