Gabion Walls in landscape design

A functional, effective and great-looking design piece to add to your landscape is a Gabion retaining wall. You might have seen them at hip cafes and restaurants! Gabion Walls are heavy wire cages filled with (usually) rocks to form a strong retaining wall. Gabions are extremely useful in areas with overland water flow as the rocks allows the water to move through safely, maintaining the wall's structural integrity.

Gabions can use beautiful melded mesh to achieve a stylish look. You can also use any appropriate material to fill the Gabion cage to suit and enhance the design. They can be used as free standing elements, or for retaining. Organic shapes can also be achieved with the form of the gabions. These modifications create a very versatile landscape element that is unique and exciting.
